She was in 7th Heaven, a popular television show. Mitchell's first film-related role was in The Crow: City of Angels as a teenage heroin addict Grace. In 1996, while shooting of The Crow, she tried out as a young actress for the role of Mary Camden in 7th Heaven. The producers initially rejected her audition because they thought she wasn't suitable for Mary. She auditioned and was quickly chosen to play Lucy. 7th Heaven became very popular and ran for eleven seasons.
